Dundee United Manager Praises Team Performance After Win Over Aberdeen
Resilient Display from Dundee United
Steven Pressley, manager of Dundee United, was thrilled with his team's performance in a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen. The match at Dens Park saw goals from Joe Westley and Joe Bevan, with the latter being named man of the match.
Pressley highlighted that this was one of the most complete performances since he took charge last year. He noted the speed, excitement, composure, and resilience displayed by his players. However, Pressley also warned that maintaining such high standards will require time to build up fitness levels and a stronger squad.
"I don't often get too excited about things, but truth be told, since coming to Dundee just over a year ago, I think that's been our most complete and our best performance," said Pressley. "It had everything that I look for in a Dundee team."
Aberdeen Manager Criticizes Team Performance
Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson was less upbeat about his side’s performance. He described the match as an “incredibly disappointing” one, stating that nobody from his team received praise.
"An incredibly disappointing performance,” said Robinson. "I didn't recognise the team. We didn't do what we do. We didn't outfight them, we didn't outrun them, we didn't outbattle them - they did the opposite to us and their front four set the press and then we couldn't cope with it.
Robinson also pointed out that the absence of key players Brad Lyons and Connor Ronan had affected his team’s physicality. He added that the Aberdeen squad needs to improve in making better passes and decisions, as these are crucial for winning matches.
"We didn't do the basics right and it's not like us. Very unlike us," Robinson concluded. "A lot of bad decisions in and out of possession. When you play for Aberdeen, you can't do that. You have to reset yourself after one mistake and go again."
New Signing for Aberdeen
Following the match, Aberdeen announced the signing of Belgian forward Mitchy Ntelo from Swiss side Yverdon. Robinson expressed optimism about his new addition, stating that he will bring pace and strength to the team's forward line.
"He adds pace and strength to the forward line,” added Robinson. “He can play anywhere across the front three. So he'll hopefully add us a little bit of physicality - and goals obviously that we require.”
