What happened?

Dundee United goalkeeper Owen Goodman is seeking to become Canada's No. 1 goalkeeper with the guidance of head coach Steven Pressley. Goodman has been part of the Canadian World Cup squad and is now pushing to get in front of Maxime Crepeau and Dayne St. Clair.

Why it matters for Dundee United

Pressley believes that playing in the Scottish Premiership can aid Goodman's international ambitions. "Absolutely, I think that was in his thinking as well," Pressley said. "For anybody outside, when you look at certain individuals and if they are playing within the top league in that country, it is always more of a benefit."

What comes next?

Goodman has had a number of lower league loans at the likes of AFC Wimbledon, Barnsley, Colchester and Huddersfield. Pressley knows that he will eventually want to try and push to make his mark in the English Premier League with Crystal Palace. "That would be his longer term aim," Pressley predicted.

Dundee United will finalize their pre-season preparations with a closed door friendly against Bristol Rovers on Wednesday. The team is currently 9th in the Premiership with 33 points from 33 games, recent form WLWWL. They are 37 points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian.

In other news, goalkeeper Miller Thomson is currently sidelined due to injury.
