Alan Forrest joins Dundee United on two-year deal
Dundee United have completed the signing of Alan Forrest on a two-year contract with the option of a further year. The winger arrives at Dens Park as a free agent after his exit from Hearts, bringing Championship-winning pedigree and a sharp eye for goal.
Steven Pressley, Dundee’s manager, said: “We’ve been monitoring Alan’s situation for a while and it’s excellent to bring him to Dundee. He has all the attributes we look for—one-on-one ability, delivery of crosses and ball carrying—and he’s very hard working against the ball. Alan knows the Scottish game well and has performed at this level for years, so we believe he still has plenty to give.”
Forrest, 29, made 142 appearances for Hearts over four seasons, scoring 14 goals. Before that, he turned out more than 200 times for Ayr United, where he became a fan favourite. His arrival comes as Dundee United sit ninth in the Premiership with 33 points from 33 games, 37 points behind league leaders Heart Of Midlothian, and boast a goal difference of -19 after 34 goals scored and 53 conceded.
Why Forrest’s move matters for Dundee United
Forrest’s profile matches Dundee’s pressing style and wide threat. Pressley highlighted his ability to carry the ball into dangerous areas and deliver crosses into the box, traits that could unlock stubborn defences in a tight Premiership campaign. With only 33 points from 33 games, every creative spark matters—and Forrest brings Championship experience and goals from wide areas.
The winger’s understanding of Scottish football was a key selling point. “The way they played last year, they were a match for any team in the league,” he said. “I want to affect games whether it’s helping off the ball, creating or scoring, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
What’s next for Dundee United
Forrest’s arrival adds depth to a squad still chasing consistency. Dundee United sit nine points clear of the bottom three but trail the top six by 11 points, leaving room for improvement. With 34 goals scored and 53 conceded, defensive work remains a priority—but Forrest’s creativity could help turn tight results.
Pressley’s side has struggled for form recently, with recent results reading WLWWL, but Forrest’s arrival injects fresh competition for places. The club’s summer rebuild continues as they aim to climb the table before the transfer window shuts.
