Dundee United travel to Celtic Park on Wednesday night aiming to end a 34-year wait for an away victory over Celtic. Manager Jim Goodwin says his in-form side are full of confidence and will stick to their expansive style to try and exploit the champions.

The Terrors have not won at Celtic Park since a Boxing Day triumph in 1992, when Duncan Ferguson scored the winner. That historical weight is balanced by their current momentum, a five-game unbeaten run that has lifted them to fifth in the Premiership with 14 points from 10 games. The sequence includes three wins in their last four outings, most recently a 3-2 home victory over Aberdeen last Friday. Their overall record this season stands at four wins and two draws from their ten matches, though their most recent form over the last four games is one win, one draw and two losses.

Manager's belief

Goodwin stated his team is in their best form for a long time and will not revert to a cautious approach. He believes Dundee United have the players, with pace, power and technical ability in midfield, to cause Celtic problems, especially given the hosts' defensive questions. The manager pointed to a dominant midfield three, solid defensive shape and consistent chance creation as reasons for optimism.

"We are in a really good place at the moment, scoring goals and playing fantastic football," Goodwin said.

He added that his team will not be going to Glasgow to simply sit in and defend.

Building momentum

The recent results underpin this belief. The 3-2 win against Aberdeen featured goals from Zidane Iqbal, Dylan Tait and Zachary Sapsford. Before that came a 1-1 draw at St Johnstone, a 1-0 home win over Hibernian and a comprehensive 3-0 away victory at St Mirren. This form has given United a positive goal difference of +2, having scored 14 and conceded 12 this season.

Goodwin highlighted the importance of the team's defensive organisation as a foundation for their attacking play.

Wednesday's task is formidable, with Celtic 13 points clear at the top of the standings. However, United's recent performances suggest they are capable of a competitive showing. The immediate focus, though, is on finally rewriting a piece of history that has stood for 34 years.

Goodwin acknowledged.
