Dundee United have honoured former player and Hall of Fame member Giorgi Nemsadze after his death. The Georgian midfielder, who played for the club from 2000 to 2003, has died. The tribute comes as the current team sits fourth in the Premiership with 14 points from nine games, having recorded four wins, two draws and three losses.
"Everyone at Dundee Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of former player and Hall of Fame inductee Giorgi Nemsadze aged 54," the club said in a statement. Nemsadze was added to the Scottish Premiership club's Hall of Fame in 2010.
Career and international legacy
Nemsadze played many times for Georgia, captaining his nation and appearing for them while at Dundee. His career at club level also saw him play for Trabzonspor, Grasshoppers, Reggiana and Dinamo Tbilisi. Following his playing days, he became a manager, taking charge of Dinamo Tbilisi for part of a season after working as their sporting director. He also managed Shevardeni Tbilisi and Dila Gori, and returned to Tannadice for Julian Speroni's testimonial match in 2015.
The news of Nemsadze's passing comes as the current Dundee United side prepares for its next fixture. The team travels to face St Mirren on Saturday 24 October. Their most recent match was a 1-1 draw with St Johnstone on Saturday 17 October, where a late equaliser from Lyall Cameron, assisted by Jesse Randall, secured a point. That result leaves United ten points behind leaders Celtic in the title race. The side's recent form shows one win, one draw and one loss from its last three matches, following a 1-0 victory over Hibernian and a 3-0 win against St Mirren. This season, the team has scored 13 goals and conceded 10. The club's top scorer this season is J. Randall with two goals in nine appearances. The club's full upcoming schedule can be viewed on the fixtures page.
