Dundee United produced a commanding performance to defeat St Mirren 3-0 at The Marbill Coaches Stadium on Saturday. The victory, their second consecutive away win, lifts them to fourth in the Premiership with 10 points from seven matches.
Goals from Jesse Randall, Lyall Cameron and Kevin Ciubotaru sealed the points before half-time. Randall opened the scoring after just six minutes, finishing a move involving Idjessi Metsoko and Daniel Bennie. Cameron doubled the lead six minutes later, curling a shot from the edge of the area for his first goal for the club. Ciubotaru completed the scoring on the stroke of half-time, converting a cut-back from Randall for his own maiden United goal.
VAR decisions shape first half
The match saw two significant interventions from the video assistant referee. In the 18th minute, a penalty awarded to St Mirren was overturned for an offside in the build-up. Later, a straight red card shown to Jesse Randall for a challenge was downgraded to a yellow after a review, allowing the goalscorer to remain on the pitch.
Manager Jim Goodwin made three changes to his starting line-up, bringing in Zidane Iqbal, Idjessi Metsoko and Randall. The alterations paid immediate dividends, with the new starters heavily involved in the attacking play. St Mirren's best chance came when Nsio struck the crossbar in the 40th minute, but goalkeeper Jack Walton was otherwise well protected.
Second half sees changes
With the game secured, Goodwin introduced fresh legs in the second period. Will Ferry and Lachlan Rose replaced Bennie and Metsoko in the 73rd minute, with Rose having a goal ruled out for offside shortly after. Neil Farrugia and Abdoulaye Yoro then came on for Cameron and Randall, while Panutche Camara replaced Iqbal later in the match.
The clean sheet and three-goal margin provide a significant boost ahead of the next league fixture. United's recent form shows three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five outings.
St Mirren goalkeeper Chapman made several saves to deny Ciubotaru and Randall a second goal each. The result leaves Dundee United eight points behind leaders Celtic but firmly in the mix in the upper half of the table. The squad's depth was on display, with several players making positive contributions from the bench. Emmanuel Agyei remains the only player currently sidelined through injury. The team will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Falkirk next month.

The forward has two goals and two assists in the Premiership this season. Dundee United, fourth with 10 points, have scored nine goals and conceded seven. Their next league match is away to Falkirk on October 10.
