Dundee United forward Mehdi Mergham is set to miss the team's Scottish Premiership trip to face St Mirren on Tuesday due to injury. The absence of the attacker weakens the squad's options for a key fixture as they aim to build on a league position of fourth.

The club confirmed the news, stating Mergham is unavailable for selection. His injury comes at a time when United have won three of their last five matches, a run that includes a 3-0 victory over St Mirren last month. In that game, goals from Jesse Randall, Lyall Cameron and Kevin Ciubotaru secured a comfortable win.

Manager Jim Goodwin now has to adjust his plans for the Paisley visit. The team's recent form of three wins, one draw and one loss has lifted them to 10 points from seven games, eight points behind leaders Celtic.

With Mergham sidelined, other forwards like top scorer Jesse Randall will carry a greater burden. Randall has two goals in seven appearances this season. United's next assignment after St Mirren is an away match against 11th-placed Falkirk on 10 October.
